Helping Hands: Holiday Tips for Giving Back

The holiday season is a magical time of the year filled with happiness, family, friends and good eats. However, that isn’t the case for everyone. That is where volunteering comes in. Volunteering is something that should be considered year-round, but the holidays are a special time for helping out your community.

Check out these 4 ways you can put your ‘helping hands’ to good use:

Feed the homeless

There are many people out there who unfortunately won’t have a warm holiday meal, but you can do something about it! Visiting a homeless shelter and helping serve warm meals is a very wonderful experience!

Organize a food drive

Team up with a local charity that holds food drives and help them collect nonperishable goods. You can either personally collect these items and deliver them yourself, or organize one at your place of work. The more helping hands coming together, the better!

Purchase presents for less fortunate children

Have you ever noticed Christmas trees covered in white tags while shopping at the mall? Those would be the Salvation Army Angel Trees. Whether you want to pick tags off the tree and purchase gifts for less fortunate children, or volunteer at the stations, you will make someone’s holiday a little brighter.

Put together care packages for our military

Although there is so much we can do for people in our community, we can’t forget about the brave individuals serving our country. Being away from your family during the holidays can be hard, so putting together care packages that are sent to our military will make them feel more at home. There are countless organizations out there you can team up with!

If you want to learn about even more volunteer opportunities, there are many resources online that can point you in the direction and help you find one that is perfect for you!
