DHT Physical Therapy Team Member Spotlight: Jeanette Amado
Position: Practice Manager, Desert Hand Therapy
What’s the best part of your job?
The people that work here – hands down. They’re all so caring and they all have their interesting lives. We get to see their victories and all their growth.
What is it that excites/motivates you on a daily basis?
Seeing all of those victories definitely motivates me on a daily basis.
What do you think the biggest misconception about physical therapy is?
People don’t think it’s really going to help them – they aren’t sure if it’s really going to work for them or if they will be able to achieve what they want.
What are the biggest challenges you face as a physical therapist?
There are external obstacles or restrictions sometimes that I think can keep patients from really getting the help and the care that they need in order to heal.
What are you passionate about other than physical therapy?
I have two kids that are definitely number one. I have a new puppy, I like to exercise. I also plan on traveling more in the future.
What is the one thing you wish your patients would do more of?
I like to see my patients being positive – injury can get you down, and I think it’s really helpful when the patients have hope.
What’s your top tip for living a healthy lifestyle?
Laugh every day. Have a healthy and positive attitude, which brings your spirits up. Lots of music, lots of laughing, and I guess you could throw some exercise in there, too!
What are you currently listening to/reading/watching?
I’m currently obsessed with “This is Us”! It’s a family, tear-jerker, just… “wow” kind of show.
What is your favorite song?
“Superheroes” by The Script is definitely a song that gets me through all of life’s ups and downs.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would go to Italy. I heard that the olive oil is amazing and that the food is so fresh!
If you could have a superpower, what would it be?
I wish I had super-vision and could see everything perfectly.
What is your special talent?
Last year I won a fitness competition, specifically a Figure Competition. I won first place overall, all classes, all ages. It was a great exercise in self-discipline and being able to be mentally focused on a personal goal. It was a great challenge, mentally and physically.
Would you rather sky dive or bungee jump?
No interest in either at ALL. I’m not afraid of heights, I would just rather fly to Italy in that plane instead of jumping out of it. When it comes to thrill seeking, I prefer off-road racing. I used to do desert racing in UTV’s. There’s so much dust, you can’t see anything!
Which TV show do you watch that is your biggest guilty pleasure?
“The Young Pope” with Jude Law. It’s really, really interesting. You’re never really sure what the characters are going to do next.
What was the best present you’ve ever received?
My children – hands down.
If you could play any sport professionally, which one would you play and why?
Football for sure! It’s so much fun. My favorite team is the Arizona Cardinals, especially Larry Fitzgerald.
